DMA backs Allen Young for MPS trustee

The Durham Miners Association (DMA) supports Allen Young for re-election as the Mineworkers Pension Scheme (MPS) trustee to represent the members in our region.

Allen, who worked as a coal miner for almost 20 years, working Murton and Westoe collieries, has received the unanimous backing of the DMA executive who urge members in our region to give Allen their vote.

DMA Secretary Alan Mardghum said: “I have known Allen Young for over 40 years. I served on the NUM North East Area Executive Committee with him and stood on many picket lines alongside him.

“As our MPS representative, he has done a sterling job looking after members interests. Allen has always made himself available to answer members queries about their pensions and has held regular meetings to update members on MPS-related issues. He gave evidence to the BEISS committee which resulted in the £1.5billion investment reserve fund being paid to beneficiaries and he continues to argue for the Surplus Sharing arrangement to be revised in favour of the beneficiaries. I have no hesitation in asking members to VOTE for ALLEN YOUNG in the current MPS trustee ballot.”
